SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (20-3, 9-2 PSAC East) defeated Lock Haven (3-18, 1-10 PSAC East) in three sets in PSAC East volleyball action on Senior Night at the Butcher Center on Friday night. The Rams posted a 25-15, 27-25, 25-21 victory.
Senior middle hitter Georgia Ohmke (Falls Church, Va./Justice) had 10 kills and six blocks to pace the Rams. Sophomore outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) added six kills and nine digs, while junior outside hitter Kiara Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) also had six kills. Junior outside hitter Kitanna Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) posted five kills and added a match-high seven blocks.
Sophomore setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) recorded 24 assists and eight digs. Redshirt-freshman defensive specialist/libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) recorded 10 digs.
Alyssa Daley had eight kills and Gabriela Fiavola added six for the Bald Eagles. Kelly Gaston contributed 23 assists and 14 digs.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 4 p.m.
Notes: Shepherd honored seniors Georgia Ohmke and Brooke Dunn in a program ceremony for Senior Night … Dunn tied for the team lead with a pair of aces and also added eight digs … Shepherd leads NCAA II in blocks per set with a 2.93 per set mark. … Ohmke currently ranks second in blocks per set with a 1.51 mark and Elyssia Smith ranks 31st with a 1.13 mark.
