JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Shepherd University (9-0, 3-0 PSAC) to a 71-51 win over Pitt-Johnstown (3-6, 1-2 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday night. McLaughlin (1,020) eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career.
McLaughlin hit on 6-of-13 shots from the floor with a 1-of-5 effort from three-point range. She was 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed six rebounds.
Graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) had 18 points and six boards, while junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) contributed 15 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and three steals.
Payton Alazaus had 10 points and Ashley Norling added nine for the Mountain Cats. Molly Wagoner recorded a game-high 16 rebounds.
Shepherd shot 45.4 percent (28-54) from the floor with a 33 percent effort (3-15) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 75 percent (12-16) of their free throws.
UPJ hit on 24.2 percent (16-66) from the floor with a 31.3 percent effort (5-16) from beyond the arc for the game. The Mountain Cats connected on 87.5 percent (14-16) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 41-37 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 20. Shepherd had seven steals while Pitt-Johnstown posted eight.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Indiana (Pa.) for a 1 p.m. contest.
