Seton Hill Hands Shepherd Women First Loss

GREENSBURG, Pa.  – Katie Nolan had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Seton Hill (9-4, 4-1 PSAC) to a 61-59 win over #20 Shepherd University (10-1, 4-1 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Seton Hill on Sunday. 

Graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) posted game highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead Shepherd. 

Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield)and junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) each added 14 points. Beeman also contributed six assists, five rebounds, and four steals. 

Sonia Sarda tossed in 13 points for the Griffins. Christiane Frye added 10 points, six boards, and four steals. 

A close game throughout, the contest was tied at 27-all at halftime. 

Shepherd took a 59-53 lead after a pair of free throws by Beeman with 2:32 left, but Seton Hill closed the game on an 8-0 run to take the victory. 

Shepherd shot 43.1 percent (22-51) from the floor with a 20 percent effort (3-15) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 66.7 percent (12-18) of their free throws. 

Seton Hill hit on 42.1 percent (24-57) from the floor with a 20 percent effort (4-20) from three-point range for the game. The Griffins connected on 90 percent (9-10) of their free throws. 

Seton Hill had a 33-32 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed 17. Shepherd recorded five steals and Seton Hill had 15. 

The Rams return to action on Dec. 30 when they travel to Liberty University for a 2 p.m. exhibition game.
