Shepherd Women Top Clarion; Eckleberry Gains 100th Win

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) scored 23 points and graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 21 to lead Shepherd University (7-0, 2-0 PSAC) to a 70-57 win over Clarion (2-5, 1-1 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The win gave Shepherd head coach Jenna Eckleberry her 100th career win.

McLaughlin hit on 9-of-15 field goals with a 3-of-7 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-2 from the foul line. She added six rebounds. 

Clayton connected on 10-of-15 field goals. She was 1-of-1 from the charity stripe. She added six boards 

Junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) added 14 points and five assists. 

Sierra Bermudez led the Golden Eagles with 22 points. Olivia Brooks added 11 points, while Jada Smith had eight points and nine rebounds. 

Shepherd shot 50.9 percent (28-55) from the floor with a 35 percent effort (7-20) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 100 percent (7-7) of their free throws. 

Clarion hit on 41.5 percent (22-53) from the floor with a 26.9 percent effort (7-26) from three-point range for the game. The Golden Eagles connected on 100 percent (6-6) of their free throws. 

Clarion had a 30-28 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced 20 turnovers and committed 15.  

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Virginia State for a 2 p.m. contest.
