WILSON, N.C. – The Shepherd University golf teams completed first round play at the Barton Intercollegiate at Wilson Country Club on Monday. The men's team shot a 294 to rank ninth in a 13-team field, while the women's team is ranked sixth with a first round total of 426. This is the first-ever match for the women's team.
The men were led by junior Mason Kidwell (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) who fired a 71 to tie for 20th place. He was followed by sophomore Chris Neighbors (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (72, T-27th), graduate student Owen Elliott (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) (73, T-30th), junior Tyler Hardy (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (78, T-51st), and junior Tyler Potts (Owings, Md./Northern/College of Southern Maryland) (82, T-66th).
Freshman Amanda Deener (Middletown, Md./Frederick Christian Academy Homeschool Umbrella Program) led the women with a 91 to tie for 32nd place. She was followed by freshman Alexis Parrotte (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) (93, T-36th), freshman Olivia Rosick (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) (113, T-40th), senior Serafina Maerten (Martinsburg, W.Va./Spring Mills) (129,42nd), and freshman Ciara Scafide (Knoxville, Md./Brunswick) (142, 44th).
Both teams return to action on Tuesday for final day tournament action.
