Shepherd Baseball Falls to #21 Millersville

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Millersville (10-6, 7-4 PSAC East) rallied past Shepherd University (13-8, 11-8 PSAC East) in game one for a 9-4 win in PSAC doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Monday. The nightcap was called in the top of the first inning after a short rain delay. 

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when senior third baseman Joey Goldsmith (Vienna, Va./James Madison/Pitt CC) double and later scored on a single by graduate student outfielder Caleb Walls (State College, Pa./State College Area/Maryland). 

The Rams increased their lead to 2-0 in the fourth as senior first baseman Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro/UMBC) singled and later scored on a single off the bat of senior infielder Joey Schwartz (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg/Western Kentucky). 

Millersville tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth behind RBIs from Chase Simmons and Jimmy Losh. 

Goldsmith led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo blast to give the Rams a 3-2 advantage. 

Schwartz belted a solo homer in the sixth to up the Shepherd lead to 4-2. 

The Marauders rallied with seven runs in the seventh inning to earn the win. Mark Miller hit a three-run homer and Losh added a solo shot to highlight the rally. 

Schwartz and Goldsmith each went 2-for-3 to lead the Rams. 

Justin Taylor went 2-for-3 to pace the Marauders. 

Jeff Taylor (7.0 IP, 10 H,4 ER, 7 K, 1 BB) (4-1) went the distance to gain the win for Millersville. Senior reliever Adam Miller (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) (0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 Ks, 0 BB) (2-2) took the loss. 

The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Lock Haven for noon doubleheader.
