SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (9-7, 9-7 PSAC East) swept West Chester (8-4, 8-4 PSAC East) in PSAC doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. The Rams recorded a 10-7 win in game one and added a 12-4 triumph in the nightcap.
Senior outfielder Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored to lead the Rams in the game one victory. He had a three-run homer in the fourth.
Senior outfielder Jared Carr (Martinsburg, W.Va./St. James School) added a 2-for-3 effort with a solo homer.
Mike Ferrara went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored for the Golden Rams.
Senior reliever Ryan Marketell (Webster, N.Y./Webster/Monroe CC) (1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 K, 3 BB) (1-0) earned the win. Culver Hughes (3.2 IP, 8 H, 10 ER, 5 K, 3 BB) (2-1) took the loss.
Shepherd took a 7-4 lead on a grand slam by senior first baseman Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro/UMBC) in the fourth.
The Rams also got two-run homers by Carr and senior third baseman Joey Goldsmith (Vienna, Va./James Madison, Pitt CC), and a solo blast by Keer in the convincing win.
Graduate student outfielder Caleb Walls (State College, Pa./State College Area/Maryland) went 3-for-4 to lead the Rams. Carr went 2-for-2 with three RBI and Stewart and Keer each added a pair of hits.
Justin Horn went 3-for-4 with a three-run blast for the Golden Rams. Luke Cantwell added a solo homer.
Junior pitcher Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/UMBC) (7.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 7 K, 1 BB) (1-0) earned the win for the Rams. Jack Slade (4.1 IP, 7 H, 9 ER, 5 K, 7 BB) (2-1) took the loss for West Chester.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Alderson Broaddus for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
