Strong Second Half Lifts Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Past Kutztown

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior midfielder Makenna Luzier (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro/St. Francis) scored a match-high five goals to lift Shepherd (3-4, 3-4 PSAC East)  to an 18-12 win over Kutztown in PSAC women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Tuesday. 

Senior attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) added two goals and a match-high four assists and junior midfielder Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century) added two goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Maggie Luzier (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro/St. Francis) and freshman midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) each netted a pair of goals. 

Freshman midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) had a goal and two assists, while junior attacker Haleigh Piccolo (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll), freshman attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep), freshman attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown), and junior defender/midfielder Paige Alexander (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) each netted a goal. Lassahn and Kutztown's Allie McCormick shared game-high draw control honors with seven apiece. 

Junior midfielder Katherine Campbell (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) contributed a pair of assists.  

Morgan Hurd had three goals and an assist and Cyrose Conteh added three goals to lead the Golden Bears. 

Kutztown had a 7-6 lead at halftime. 

Shepherd took the lead for good at 9-8 when Alexander scored on a feed from Kelly with 20:41 left. 

Kutztown was within two goals at 14-12 after Conteh scored with 3:22 left. Shepherd closed with four unanswered goals to seal the win. 

Junior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded six saves for the Rams. Jenna Blesson posted six saves for the Golden Bears. 

Shepherd had a 30-27 edge in shots. Kutztown was 14-of-19 in clears, while Shepherd was 13-of-15. Shepherd had a 21-11 advantage in draw controls and Kutztown had a 19-14 edge in ground balls. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. contest.
