WILMINGTON, Del. – Shepherd University (6-1) recorded a pair of wins at Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. The Rams posted a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-13) win over host Goldey-Beacom (1-5) in the early match and added a 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22) victory in the later match against Mercy (2-3).
Junior outside hitter Kiara Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs in the win over Goldey-Beacom. Sophomore outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) added eight kills.
Senior middle hitter Georgia Ohmke (Falls Church, Va./Justice) posted eight blocks, while sophomore setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) added 31 assists and seven digs. Redshirt-freshman defensive specialist/libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) had a team-high 16 digs.
Shayla Boyce posted eight kills and Julia Syrdahl added seven for the Lightning.
Hoy had 15 kills and 10 digs to lead the Rams against Mercy. Junior outside hitter Kitanna Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) added 11 kills.
Junior middle blocker Elyssia Smith (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) had eight blocks. Nicholes had 35 assists, while Ellis had a match-high 23 digs.
Tynesha Adams led Mercy with 12 kills and five blocks
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Edinboro to faced Davis & Elkins at 4 p.m. and host Edinboro at 7 p.m.
