EDINBORO, Pa. – Shepherd University (8-1) recorded a pair of wins at Edinboro on Friday. The Rams posted a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-18) win over Davis and Elkins (1-7) in the early match and added a 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 13-25, 18-16) victory over host Edinboro (4-1) in the later match. The Rams ran their win streak to seven matches.
Junior outside hitter Kiara Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) had 14 kills, three blocks, and two aces in the win over the Senators.
Sophomore setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) added 17 assists and redshirt-freshman defensive specialist/libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) recorded 17 digs.
Macie Magallan had 15 kills to lead Davis & Elkins. Brilane Manchego had 19 assists and Mariah Autobee contributed 14 digs.
Kiara Rakestraw had nine kills and 11 digs against the Fighting Scots. Sophomore outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) added eight kills, while junior outside hitter Kitanna Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) had seven kills and three blocks.
Senior middle hitter Georgia Ohmke (Falls Church, Va./Justice) had four blocks, while junior middle blocker Elyssia Smith (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) added three. Nicholes had 23 assists, while Ellis had 26 digs.
Bella Burelli had 16 kills and Sally Sterkel added 14 for Edinboro.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Mercyhurst to face West Virginia Wesleyan at noon and Mercyhurst at 3 p.m.
