ERIE, Pa. – Shepherd University (10-1) recorded a pair of wins at Mercyhurst on Saturday. The Rams posted a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-11) win over West Virginia Wesleyan (0-7) in the early match and added a 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-9, 25-27, 15-12) triumph over host Mercyhurst (4-1) in the later match. The Rams upped their win streak to nine matches.
Junior outside hitter Kitanna Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) and freshman middle hitter Renee Killough (Bloomery, W. Va./Hampshire) each had six kills to lead the Rams against West Virginia Wesleyan.
Sophomore setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) added 22 assists and redshirt-freshman defensive specialist/libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) recorded 11 digs.
Michela Ayers and Makenzie Yates each had six kills to lead West Virginia Wesleyan.
Junior outside hitter Kiara Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) had 18 kills and 15 digs against the Lakers. Sophomore outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) added 14 kills.
Nicholes had 45 assists, 26 digs, and three aces, while senior middle hitter Georgia Ohmke (Falls Church, Va./Justice) had 10 blocks. Ellis added 30 digs.
Madison Kasper had 15 kills to lead the Lakers. Isa McCaffrey and Hannah Vuyisteke each added 19 digs.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 7 p.m. match.
