FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Shepherd University (11-1) knocked off Fairmont State (9-4) in five sets in volleyball action at Fairmont State on Tuesday night. The Rams posted a 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 25-27, 15-10 victory. Shepherd runs its win streak to 10 matches.
Junior outside hitter Kiara Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) recorded 15 kills, while. sophomore outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) and junior outside hitter Kitanna Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) each added 14 to lead the Rams.
Sophomore setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) added 41 assists and redshirt-freshman defensive specialist/libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) recorded a match-high 43 digs.
Keara Lewis had 17 kills and Madison Chapman added 13 for the Fighting Falcons.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Shippensburg at 7 p.m. for the Whiteout Game in the home opener at the Butcher Center.
