Shepherd Women Down Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa.  – Junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) scored 19 points and graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 18 to lead #24 Shepherd University (11-2, 5-2 PSAC) to a 56-44 win over Millersville (1-11, 0-7 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Millersville on Monday night. 

Beeman connected on 7-of-14 field goals with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-3 from the foul line. Beeman also added a game-high eight assists, four rebounds, three steals, and a pair of blocked shots. 

Clayton was 8-of-17 from the floor with a 2-of-3 effort from the foul line. She also grabbed a game and career-high 15 rebounds. She posted her fourth double-double of the season. Clayton added three steals, two assists, and a pair of blocked shots.

Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield)  was also in double figures with 12 points. 

Lauren Lister led the Marauders with 14 points. Ty Taylor added seven points and a game-high five steals, while Brenna Ortwein grabbed a team-high seven boards. 

Shepherd had a 27-22 lead at the break as Beeman (9), Clayton (8), and McLaughlin (8) teamed for 25 first-half points. 

Shepherd led by as many as 15 points in the second half. Millersville rallied to within nine points at 51-42 after a jumper by Alyssa Rodriguez with 2:52 remaining in the game, but Shepherd closed on a 5-2 run to cap the win. 

Shepherd shot 38.3 percent (23-60) from the floor with a 20 percent effort (4-20) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 85.7 percent (6-7) of their free throws. 

Millersville hit on 28.8 percent (15-52) from the floor with a 13.3 percent effort (2-15) from three-point range for the game. The Marauders connected on 60 percent (12-20) of their free throws. 

Shepherd had a 42-33 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 17 turnovers and committed 20. Shepherd recorded eight steals and Millersville had nine. 

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 6 p.m. contest.
