Shepherd Women Hold Off Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.  – Junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) scored a game and season-high 37 points and dished out a game-high 10 assists to lead Shepherd University (12-2, 6-2 PSAC) to an 81-75 win over Shippensburg (8-7, 4-5 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Shippensburg on Wednesday night. 

Beeman connected on 13-of-21 field goals with a 4-of-7 effort from three-point range. She was 7-of-8 from the foul line. Beeman posted her second double-double of the season. Her 37-point effort was one point shy of her career-high 38-point effort against Millersville on Feb. 20, 2020. 

Graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 16 points, four boards, and three blocked shots, while graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) tossed in 15 points.  

Senior guard Madi White (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) tied Shippensburg's Lauren Pettis for game-high rebounding honors with six boards. 

Destiny Jefferson led the Raiders with 29 points. Taja Colbert and Pettis each had 11 points. 

Shepherd had a 42-31 lead at the break as Beeman (16), McLaughlin (11), and Clayton (10) combined for 37 points in the first half. The Rams had a 14-0 run early in the first quarter to open up a 17-4 lead. 

Shepherd led by as many as 16 points in the second half. Shippensburg rallied to within five points late in the contest, but Beeman drained 3-of-4 free throws in the game's final seconds to seal the victory. 

Shepherd shot 55.2 percent (32-58) from the floor with a 50 percent effort (7-14) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 71.4 percent (10-14) of their free throws. 

Shippensburg hit on 49.1 percent (28-57) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (4-16) from beyond the arc for the game. The Raiders connected on 78.9 percent (15-19) of their shots from the charity stripe. 

Shippensburg had a 32-27 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 15 turnovers and committed 12. Shepherd had a 7-5 edge in steals. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kutztown for a 1 p.m. contest.
