Shippensburg Outlasts Shepherd Men

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.  –  Rashon Johnson scored a game-high 22 points to lead Shippensburg (11-4, 8-2 PSAC) to a 66-60 win over Shepherd University (5-8, 1-6 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Shippensburg on Wednesday night. 

Senior guard Cam Stephens (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) paced the Rams with 16 points, a game-high 10 rebounds, and eight assists. His 10 boards and eight assists are career highs. 

Senior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) contributed 12 points and six boards. Freshman guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) and sophomore guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) were also in double figures with 10 points each. Junior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added nine points and six rebounds. 

Carlos Carter had 13 points and eight boards for the Raiders. Dom Sleva added 16 points and eight rebounds. 

Shippensburg had a 30-27 lead at the break. 

Shepherd rallied to within a point at 61-60 after a pair of free throws by Stephens with 1:10 remaining. Shippensburg got a three-pointer by Carter and a pair of free throws from Johnson in the game's final minute to secure the win. 

Shepherd connected on 41.7 percent (20-48) from the floor with a 42.9 percent (9-21) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 68.8 percent (11-16) of their free throws. 

Shippensburg shot 40 percent (24-60) from the floor with a 34.4 percent effort (11-32) from three-point range. The Raiders shot 77.8 percent (7-9) from the foul line. 

Shippensburg had a 37-33 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced nine turnovers and committed 12.  

The Rams are slated to return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kutztown for a 3 p.m. contest.
