KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left in overtime to lift Shepherd University (6-8, 2-6 PSAC) to a 65-63 win over Kutztown (6-10, 3-7 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Kutztown on Saturday afternoon.
Daggett recorded game highs of 28 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots to pace the Rams. He connected on 12-of-19 field goals and was 4-of-4 from the foul line. Daggett's 28 points are a career high and he recorded a double-double for the fourth time this season.
Freshman guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) added 12 points, while senior guard Cam Stephens (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) contributed eight points, a game-high six assists, and five boards.
Jalen Bryant had 19 points to lead Kutztown. Robert Tucker added 10 points and tied Daggett for game-high rebounding honors with 11.
Shepherd had a 33-26 lead at the break.
Kutztown rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half to force overtime. Michael Smith II hit a pair of free throws with 33 seconds left in regulation to force the extra session
Shepherd connected on 46.8 percent (29-62) from the floor with a 5.6 percent (1-18) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 75 percent (6-8) of their free throws.
Kutztown shot 36.7 percent (22-60) from the floor with a 37.5 percent effort (6-16) from three-point range. The Golden Bears shot 59.1 percent (7-9) from the foul line.
Kutztown had a 45-35 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced 12 turnovers and committed eight. The rams had a 7-6 edge in steals.
The Rams are slated to return to action on Monday when they host Mansfield at 7:30 p.m.
