KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Rylee Derr had 18 points and 18 rebounds to lead #24 Kutztown (16-4, 9-2 PSAC) to a 63-47 win over Shepherd University (12-3, 6-3 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Kutztown on Saturday afternoon.
Graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) and junior forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) each scored 12 points to lead the Rams. Clayton and graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) each grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) dished out a game-high eight assists.
Casey Remolde and Zara Zerman each added 12 points for the Golden Bears.
Kutztown had a 39-28 lead at halftime.
Shepherd shot 29.8 percent (17-57) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (7-28) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 75 percent (6-8) of their free throws.
Kutztown hit on 33.9 percent (19-56) from the floor with a 22.2 percent effort (6-27) from three-point range for the game. The Golden Bears connected on 86.4 percent (19-22) of their free throws.
Kutztown had a 44-34 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed 19. Kutztown had a 9-7 edge in steals.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Mansfield for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
