SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) scored 19 points and junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) added 18 to lead Shepherd University (13-3, 7-3 PSAC) to a 72-52 win over Mansfield (5-10, 4-7 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.
McLaughlin connected on 8-of-15 field goals with a 2-of-4 effort from beyond the arc. She was 1-of-1 from the foul line.
Beeman hit on 5-of-10 shots from the floor with an 8-of-10 effort from the charity stripe.
Freshman guard Meghan Shipley (Middletown, Md./Middletown) was also in double figures with 13 points.
Jasmine Hilton had 13 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Mountaineers. Paige Whitfield added nine points.
Shepherd had a 30-23 lead at halftime.
Shepherd shot 47.2 percent (25-53) from the floor with a 14.3 percent effort (2-14) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 74.1 percent (20-27) of their free throws.
Mansfield hit on 30.8 percent (20-65) from the floor with a 15.8 percent effort (3-19) from three-point range for the game. The Mountaineers connected on 64.3 percent (9-14) of their free throws.
Mansfield had a 46-32 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 15 turnovers and committed 15. Shepherd had a 4-2 edge in steals.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host East Stroudsburg for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
