Shepherd Women Top East Stroudsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) scored 25 points and junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) added 21 to lead Shepherd University (14-3, 8-3 PSAC) to an 80-70 win over East Stroudsburg (1-15, 0-13 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night. 

McLaughlin connected on 8-of-12 field goals with a 3-of-5 effort from beyond the arc. She was 6-of-7 from the foul line. 

Beeman hit on 4-of-13 field goals with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 11-of-12 from the foul line. Beeman added 10 rebounds and nine assists as she posted her third double-double of the season.  

Graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 17 points and eight rebounds. 

Ryan Wiese had 19 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and six steals to pace the Warriors. Leah Pishock added 12 points and six rebounds.  

Shepherd had a 49-31 lead at halftime. 

Shepherd shot 49 percent (25-51) from the floor with a 47.1 percent effort (8-17) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 88 percent (22-25) of their free throws. 

East Stroudsburg hit on 30.8 percent (20-65) from the floor with a 15.8 percent effort (3-19) from three-point range for the game. The Warriors connected on 64.3 percent (9-14) of their free throws. 

Shepherd had a 32-30 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 23 turnovers and committed 22. East Stroudsburg had an 11-8 advantage in steals. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Lock Haven for a 1 p.m. contest.
