KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Shepherd University (16-6, 8-2 PSAC East) downed Kutztown (12-11, 6-4 PSAC East) in PSAC East volleyball action at Kutztown on Saturday afternoon. The Rams gained a 25-23, 25-13, 19-25, 25-23 victory to win their eighth straight match.
Senior outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) had 11 kills and nine digs to lead the Rams. Sophomore middle blocker Joi Fairweather (Tamarac, Fla./Calvary Christian Academy) and senior outside hitter Kiara Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) each added eight kills. Fairweather added six blocks while Rakestraw had five.
Freshman middle blocker Riley Moreno (Elburn, Ill./St. Charles North) had a match-high nine blocks. Junior setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) added 20 assists and 18 digs. Redshirt-sophomore libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) contributed 10 assists and 13 digs while graduate student outside hitter Alex Farnsworth (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) provided 16 digs.
Adrianna Derstine had 18 kills, 10 digs, and five blocks to lead the Golden Bears. Sadie Doss added 13 kills, 11 digs, and two aces.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 7 p.m. match.
