Shepherd Football Tops Bloomsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Senior quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) completed 32-of-36 passes for 310 yards and five touchdowns and junior running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk)  carried 12 times for 120 yards and a pair of scores to lead #3/6 Shepherd (9-0, 6-0 PSAC East) to a 55-10 win over Bloomsburg (3-6, 2-4 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.  

Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Bagent tossed a one-yard touchdown pass to senior fullback Michael McCook (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) with 5:18 left in the first quarter. Redshirt-sophomore kicker Jacob Haynie (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) added the extra point. 

Brown tightroped down the sideline for a 15-yard scoring run with 19 seconds left in the first quarter to up the lead to 14-0. 

Brendan McGonigle connected on an 18-yard field goal with 9:39 left in the half to cut the lead to 14-3. 

Bagent tossed a 10-yard scoring pass to junior wide receiver Alphonso Foray (Germantown, Md./Northwest/Lackawanna) with 4:12 left in the second quarter. 

Shepherd took a 27-3 lead into the break as Bagent teamed with junior wide receiver Rodney Dorsey (Frederick, MD./Tuscarora/Towson) on an 11-yard scoring pass with 25 seconds left in the half. 

Bagent tossed a five-yard scoring pass to freshman wide receiver Cameron Dorner (New Market, Md./Oakdale) with 10:35 left in the third quarter to give the Rams a 34-3 advantage. 

Bloomsburg answered back on a nine-yard run by Kaleb Monaco with 6:09 left in the third quarter.  

Bagent connected with junior wide receiver Marlon Cook (Forestville, Md./Potomac) on a three-yard scoring pass with 3:00 remaining in the third quarter to give the Rams a 41-10 lead.

Shepherd closed out the scoring with a pair of fourth-quarter scoring runs as Brown scored on a three-yard run with 14:55 left and freshman running back Nazhir Russell (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) added a 27-yard run with 2:56 remaining. 

KJ Riley completed 6-of-17 passes for 78 yards and a score for the Huskies.

Monaco had 11 carries for 37 yards to lead Bloomsburg. 

Shepherd had 588 yards of total offense, while limiting Bloomsburg to 168 yards. 

Junior linebacker Dewayne Grantham (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Lackawanna) had seven tackles (four solos) and Enelio Pena (Moorestown, N.J./Woodrow Wilson/Camden CC) added five solo stops to pace the Shepherd defense. Nate Capers had a game-high 11 tackles (seven solos) to lead the Huskies. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 1:05 game. 

Notes: Tyson Bagent broke the NCAA II record for Most Games Gaining 200 yards or More (44) (old mark, 43 by Jimmy Terwilliger, East Stroudsburg, 2003-06) and the record for Most Career Games with Three or More Touchdown Passes (31) (old mark, 30 by Jimmy Terwilliger, East Stroudsburg 2003-06) … Bagent (146) needs three touchdown passes to break the NCAA II career mark held by Terwilliger (148) ... Ronnie Brown (1,051) went over 1,000 rushing yards on the season.
