SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) scored a team-high 16 points to lead Shepherd University (2-2) to a 74-62 win over Lincoln University in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Tuesday.
Poffenberger connected on 4-of-5 field goals with a 3-of-4 effort from three-point range. He was 5-of-6 from the foul line.
Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) added 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) had 14 points and four assists. Sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Korey Williams led the Lions with a game-high 17 points. Freddy Young Jr. and Bakir Cleveland each added 10 points.
Shepherd had a 29-18 advantage at the break.
Shepherd connected on 35.4 percent (17-48) from the floor with a 32.1 percent (9-28) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 93.9 percent (31-33) of their free throws.
Lincoln shot 35.3 percent (18-51) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (6-24) from three-point range. The Lions shot 76.9 percent (20-26) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 40-27 rebounding edge. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed 16.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Bowie State for a 4 p.m. contest.
