BOWIE, Md. – Junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) scored a game-high 19 points to lead Shepherd University (3-2) to a 66-55 win over Bowie State (2-5) in men's basketball action at Bowie State on Sunday.
Jordan connected on 4-of-6 field goals with a 2-of-4 effort from three-point range. He was 9-of-10 from the foul line.
Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) added 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) contributed nine points and four boards.
Quinton Drayton led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Kyree Freeman-Davis added 11 points while Joel Webb had eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
Bowie State had a 32-31 lead at the break.
Shepherd took the lead for good at 33-32 on a pair of free throws by McClain-Corley with 18:57 left in the second half.
Shepherd connected on 50 percent (21-42) from the floor with a 35 percent (7-20) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 73.9 percent (17-23) of their free throws.
Bowie State shot 38.2 percent (21-55) from the floor with a 27.8 percent effort (5-18) from three-point range. The Bulldogs shot 61.5 percent (8-13) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 33-29 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed 11.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Slippery Rock for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
