SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) scored 20 points and senior guard Cam Stephens (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) added 19 to lead Shepherd University (10-12, 5-10 PSAC) to a 68-60 win over Kutztown (7-17, 4-14 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Daggett also grabbed six boards and blocked a pair of shots. Stephens handed out a game-high nine assists. Junior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Wesley Butler had 18 points to lead the Golden Bears. Evan-Eric Longino added 15 points and six rebounds.
Shepherd had a 26-22 lead at halftime.
Shepherd had a 14-point lead dwindle to four points at 57-53 after Longino hit a jumper with 2:11 remaining. Shepherd hit 8-of-8 free throws in the game's final minutes to seal the win.
Shepherd connected on 45.1 percent (23-51) from the floor with a 41.7 percent (10-24) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 80 percent (12-15) of their free throws.
Kutztown shot 45.1 percent (23-51) from the floor with a 31.3 percent effort (5-16) from three-point range. The Golden Bears shot 75 percent (9-12) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 34-25 advantage on the boards. Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed 15. Shepherd had a 9-7 edge in steals.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
