SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) scored 25 points and graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 23 to lead Shepherd University (19-6, 13-6 PSAC) to an 88-66 win over Millersville (7-18, 6-14 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
McLaughlin hit on 8-15 field goals with a 4-of-8 effort from three-point range. She was 5-for-5 from the foul line.
Clayton connected on 11-of-16 field goals with a 1-of-1 effort from the charity stripe. She added a game-high 10 rebounds to post her seventh double-double of the season.
Junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) added 15 points, 10 assists, five boards, and three steals. Beeman registered her sixth double-double of the year.
Lauren Lister scored 22 points to pace the Marauders. She needs just three points to reach 2,000 points for her career. Christa Ricks added 13 points and Makiah Shaw tossed in 11.
Shepherd had a 42-29 lead at the half.
Shepherd shot 52.2 percent (35-67) from the floor with a 38.9 percent effort (7-18) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 100 percent (11-11) of their free throws.
Millersville hit on 46.9 percent (30-64) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (2-8) from three-point range for the game. The Marauders connected on 40 percent (4-10) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 37-31 advantage on the boards. Shepherd forced 18 turnovers and committed 14. Millersville had an 8-7 edge in steals.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 1 p.m. contest.
