Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Slippery Rock in Season Opener

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Brooke Kelly scored three goals and Charleigh Rondeau added two goals and three assists to lead Slippery Rock (1-0) to a 13-10 win over Shepherd (0-1) in women's lacrosse action under snowy conditions at Slippery Rock on Friday.  

Senior attack Katherine Campbell (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) led the Rams with three goals and two assists for five points. 

Graduate student attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) and senior midfielder/defender Paige Alexander (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods)  
added a pair of goals, while sophomore attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep) added a goal and two assists. 

Sophomore midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) had a goal and an assist. Sophomore midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) tallied a goal and senior midfielder Maddison Young (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) provided an assist.           

Slippery Rock had a 9-3 lead at halftime. 

Shepherd rallied in the second half and trailed by only a goal at 11-10 after an unassisted goal by Campbell with 13:54 left. Slippery Rock tallied a pair of goals in the final 1:08 to seal the win. 

Senior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 15 saves for the Rams. Gillian O'Rourke recorded nine saves for The Rock. 

Slippery Rock had a 35-21 advantage in shots. The Rock was 17-of-22 in clears, while Shepherd was 17-of-28. Slippery Rock had a 17-10 edge in draw controls, while ground balls were even at 27 apiece. Shepherd forced 21 turnovers and committed 31. 

The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Gannon for a 3 p.m. contest.
