Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Tops Gannon in Home Opener

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior midfielder/defender Paige Alexander (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) scored three goals to lead Shepherd (1-1) to a 13-10 win over Gannon (0-0) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Monday afternoon. 

Senior attack Katherine Campbell (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) added two goals and two assists, while graduate student attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) added a pair of goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) also netted pair of goals. 

Sophomore midfielder Paige Stoner  (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and senior midfielder Maddison Young (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) each had a goal and an assist. Senior midfielder Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century) and sophomore midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) each tallied a goal, while senior attacker Haleigh Piccolo (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) added an assist.         

Ali Jacobs led the Golden Knights with three goals. McKenna Woodworth, Caroline Stevens, and Rachel Tufts each netted a pair of goals. 

Stoner added a match-high seven draw controls, while sophomore attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep) recorded five. 

The game was tied at halftime, 6-6. 

Senior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 10 saves for the Rams. Cheyenne Jess recorded 12 saves for Gannon. 

Shepherd had a 33-25 advantage in shots. The Golden Knights were 17-of-22 in clears, while Shepherd was 13-of-18. Shepherd had a 16-11 edge in draw controls and a 27-23 edge in ground balls. Shepherd forced 25 turnovers and committed 17. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Frostburg State for a 1 p.m. game.
