BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Peyton Mortellite had 20 points and seven rebounds while Jake Nelson added 17 points and nine boards to lead Bloomsburg (4-15, 3-12 PSAC) to a 69-64 win over Shepherd University (9-11, 5-9 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Bloomsburg on Saturday.
Senior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) scored a game-high 26 points to pace the Rams. He hit on 11-of-15 shots with a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range. He was 2-of-3 from the foul line. Daggett also grabbed six rebounds.
Sophomore guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added 11 points and four assists.
Ash Kemble added 13 points for the Huskies while Justin Anderson had 10 points and six assists.
Shepherd had a 37-34 lead at the break.
Shepherd held a 64-63 lead with 1:10 left in the game after freshman forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) hit on 1-of-2 free throws.
Ash Kemble hit a jumper with 58 seconds left and Justin Rodriguez hit 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch to cap the win for Bloomsburg.
Shepherd connected on 47.3 percent (26-55) from the floor with a 21.7 percent (5-23) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 58.3 percent (7-12) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg shot 47.4 percent (27-57) from the floor with a 40.9 percent effort (9-22) from three-point range. The Huskies shot 60 percent (6-10) from the foul line.
Bloomsburg had a 36-27 edge on the boards. Shepherd forced 11 turnovers and committed nine. Shepherd had a 9-5 advantage in steals.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they host California (Pa.) at 7:30 p.m.
