Shepherd Women Top California (Pa.)

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) scored 25 points and graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) added 24 to lead Shepherd University (18-4, 12-4 PSAC) to a 76-66 win over California (Pa.) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night. 

Beeman connected on 9-of-18 shots with a 3-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. She was 4-of-7 from the foul line. She added a game-high 13 assists and tied Cal's Dejah Terrell for game-high rebounding honors with eight . 

McLaughlin hit on 8-of-13 field goals with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 6-of-6 from the charity stripe 

Graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 13 points, while senior guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) contributed five points and seven rebounds. 

Shepherd had a 29-27 lead at the half. 

Shepherd shot 50.9 percent (28-55) from the floor with a 31.3 percent effort (5-16) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 71.4 percent (15-21) of their free throws. 

California (Pa.) hit on 39.7 percent (25-63) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (4-16) from three-point range for the game. The Vulcans connected on 70.6 percent (12-17) of their free throws. 

Shepherd had a 39-32 edge on the boards.  Shepherd forced 16 turnovers and committed 19. Cal had an 11-6 edge in steals. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Kutztown at 1 p.m.
