SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd (6-6, 2-0 PSAC East) swept Mansfield (6-8, 0-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Friday. The Rams earned a 3-1 win in game one and added an 18-6 triumph in the nightcap
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning in game one on a solo blast off the bat of junior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb).
The Rams added a run in the sixth on an RBI-single by junior third baseman Ryan Haddaway (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville).
The Mountaineers got on the board on an RBI-single by Assaf Lowengart in the bottom of the sixth.
Shepherd added a run in the seventh as graduate student outfielder Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) led off with a single and later scored on an error.
Redshirt-senior pitcher Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West/UMBC) (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 8 K, 2 BB) ((2-1) earned the win. Graduate student pitcher Ryan Bywaters (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg/Radford) (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 K, 1 BB) gained the save. Hunter DePrimo (1-2) (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 12 K, 0 BB) took the loss for Mansfield.
Mulhall went 4-for-6 to lead a 15-hit attack for the Rams in the nightcap. He belted three home runs in the game and drove in seven runs.
Graduate student infielder Joey Schwartz (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg/Western Kentucky), junior designated hitter Brady Weaver (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville), and junior shortstop Cole Daugherty (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) each added round-trippers for the Rams. The six home runs in the game tie the Shepherd single-game mark.
Lowengart went 2-for-4 to lead Mansfield.
Graduate student reliever Adam Miller (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) (3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) (1-0) earned the win. (3.0 Ryan King (3.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 7 K, 3 BB) (1-3) took the loss for the Mountaineers.
The Rams return to action on Monday for a 2 p.m. contest at Fairfax Field.
