Shepherd Baseball Falls at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bloomsburg (11-6, 3-1 PSAC East) downed Shepherd University (7-7, 2-1 PSAC East), 9-5, in PSAC East baseball action at Bloomsburg on Friday. 

Bloomsburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI-double by Kyle OFier. 

The Huskies added a pair of runs in the second to take a 3-0 advantage. 

Shepherd tied the game in the fourth on a three-run blast off the bat of senior outfielder Brennan Holmes (Ona, W.Va./Cabell Midland). 

Bloomsburg retook the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer by Brady Gibble. 

The Huskies added a pair of runs in the fifth as Wyatt Metzger and Anthony Viggiano each drove in a run. 

The Rams got a two-run homer by graduate student second baseman Joey Schwartz (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg/Western Kentucky) in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-5. 

Brandon Ernst and Jonathon Labarbera hit solo homers in the bottom of the sixth for the Huskies to increase the lead to 8-5.

Bloomsburg added a run in the eighth on an RBI-single by Jared Burcin to complete the scoring. 

Junior outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC), senior catcher Zach Doss (Waldorf, Md./North Point/Maryland), and Holmes each had as pair of hits to pace the Rams. 

Ernst went 3-for-5 to lead the Huskies. 

Jared Marshman (5.2 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 6 K, 0 BB) (4-1) earned the win for Bloomsburg. Nate Baranski (3.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 4 K, 3 BB) picked up the save. Redshirt-senior pitcher Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West/UMBC) (3.1 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 5 K, 3 BB) (2-2) took the loss. 

The two teams return to action on Saturday for a noon doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
