Edwards Leads Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Past Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) scored a career and game-high five goals to lead Shepherd University (4-6, 2-4, PSAC East) to a 17-14 win over Kutztown (4-6, 1-5 PSAC East) in PSAC East women's lacrosse action at Kutztown on Tuesday afternoon. 

Graduate student attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) recorded three goals and two assists. Senior attacker Katherine Campbell (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) had two goals and a pair of assists, while sophomore midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added two goals and an assist.  Stoner added a team-high four caused turnovers. 

Sophomore attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep), senior midfielder Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century), and freshman attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) each had a goal and an assist. Freshman midfielder Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and senior midfielder/defender Paige Alexander (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) each had a goal. Lassahn also posted a match-high 10 draw controls.       

Emma Meakim and Lailah ElBouazzaoui each had four goals to lead the Golden Bears. 

Shepherd had a 6-5 lead at halftime. 

The Rams scored four consecutive goals to open the fourth quarter to take a 14-8 lead. Kutztown closed with a 6-3 run to keep the game close. 

Senior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 10 saves for the Rams. Jenna Blesson (9) and Fiona Henderson (2) combined for 11 saves for Kutztown. 

Shots were even at 36-all with Shepherd taking an 18-15 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 18-of-25 in clears while Kutztown was 13-of-18. Shepherd had an 18-15 edge in draw controls and Kutztown had a 26-19 advantage in ground balls. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. contest.
