QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – Shepherd University (19-20) dropped an 8-6 decision to Bloomsburg (28-17) in an elimination game of the PSAC Softball Tournament action at Veterans Park in Quakertown, Pa. on Sunday.
Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run homer by junior designated player Cameron Davis (Ayden, N.C./South Central/UNC Pembroke).
Bloomsburg answered back in the bottom of the first to tie the game behind a two-run homer by Nicolette Ray and a solo blast by Erin Delpierre.
Shepherd took a 4-3 lead in the second on an RBI-single by graduate student second baseman Leann Brown (Hume, Va./Fauquier).
The Huskies scored three runs in the third to a take a 6-4 lead. Bella Culp drove in a run and scored another to key the rally.
Senior third baseman/pitcher Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville) smacked an RBI-single in the fourth to cut the lead to 6-5.
The Huskies got a two-run double by Sammi Starr in the fifth to take an 8-5 advantage.
Shepherd added a run in the seventh on an RBI-single by graduate student shortstop Ashley Burger (Hedgesville, W.Va./Spring Mills).
Purtell went 4-for-4 to lead the Rams. Brown added a 3-for-4 effort , while Burger added a pair of hits.
Emma Little went 3-for-4 to pace the Huskies.
Callie Sowers (7.0 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 6 K, 0 BB) (18-7) gained the win. Purtell (3.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (1-1) took the loss.
Bloomsburg advances to face Mercyhurst in an elimination game.
