SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of the District of Columbia in men's soccer action at Shepherd in the season opener for both schools.
UDC got first half goals from Santiago Martinez and Zachary Parker to take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
The Firebirds added a second half tally by Zouhir Warid to complete the scoring.
Senior netminder Billy Wood (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) recorded five saves for the Rams. Javier Torres (77:03, 2 saves) and Simon Birnstad (12:57, 0 saves) combined on the shutout for the Firebirds.
UDC had a 13-6 advantage in shots with an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. UDC held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomfield for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
