Shepherd Takes Pair at Ram Rumble

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University swept a pair of matches in volleyball action at the Ram Rumble at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The Rams (5-0) posted a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-18) win over Dominican in the early match and added an exciting five-set  (24-26, 25-16, 25-16, 16-25, 15-12) triumph over Shaw in the later contest. 

Senior outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) had eight kills and six digs to lead the Rams against Dominican. 

Freshman setter Macy Buso (Parker, Colo./Chaparral) had 12 assists and junior setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) added 11. Redshirt sophomore libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) recorded nine digs. 

Kaitlyn Carr had eight kills to lead the Chargers. Alessandra Pamtoja added 16 assists and nine digs. 

Senior outside hitter Kitanna Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) had 12 kills and Hoy added 11 to lead the Rams against Shaw. 

Buso (20) and Nicholes (19) teamed for 39 assists, while Ellis posted 19 digs.  Sophomore middle hitter Renee Killough (Bloomery, W.Va/Hampshire) led the defensive effort with 10 blocks. 

Mallory Brown had 13 kills to lead Shaw. Breelyn Clark posted 34 assists and 15 digs. Cheyenne Hodges had a match-high 12 blocks. 

The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to the Georgian Court to face Queens at 5 p.m. in first-day action of the Georgian Court Invitational.
