SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (8-4) dropped a 3-0 decision to Fairmont State (13-1) in volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Tuesday evening. The Fighting Falcons earned a 25-19, 25-21. 25-17 victory.
Senior outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) had eight kills and 10 digs to lead the Rams. Freshman outside hitter Molly Grimm (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) contributed seven kills.
Junior setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) contributed 22 assists, five blocks, and seven digs, while redshirt-sophomore libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) recorded a match-high 21 digs.
Nyla Birch and Madison Chapman each had 13 kills to pace Fairmont State. Bryce Knapp added 17 digs and a pair of aces.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 7 p.m. match.
