West Chester Edges Shepherd Men

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Joshua Walker hit a buzzer-beating jumper to lift West Chester (13-5, 8-4 PSAC) to a 70-69 win over Shepherd (10-8, 7-5 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at West Chester on Monday night. 

Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) led the Rams with a game-high 21 points. He connected on 7-of-13 field goals with a 5-of-9 effort from three-point range. McClain-Corley was 2-of-2 from the foul line. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. 

Junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added 20 points and tied West Chester's Eli Barrett with a game-high six assists. Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) and sophomore guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) each contributed 11 points.

Jamil Manigo led the Golden Rams with 20 points. Walker added 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Kyle McGee and Robert Smith each tossed in 12 points.

Shepherd had a 40-33 lead at the break.

Shepherd held a lead throughout the second half until Walker hit a pair of free throws to give West Chester a 68-67 lead with 58 seconds left. Jordan hit a jumper with 38 seconds remaining to give the Rams a 69-68 edge and set the stage for Walker's game-winner.  

Shepherd connected on 47.2 percent (25-53) of its field goals with a 37 percent (10-27) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 90 percent (9-10) of their free throws. 

West Chester shot 41.3 percent (26-63) from the floor with a 21.4 percent (6-28) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Rams hit on 75 percent (12-16) of their free throws. 

Shepherd had a 35-33 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced four turnovers and committed 12. 

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Shippensburg for an 8 p.m. contest.
