SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) scored a game-high 22 points, but Shippensburg (12-7, 10-3 PSAC) held on for a 68-66 win over Shepherd (10-9, 7-6 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Shippensburg on Wednesday night.
McClain-Corley connected on 8-of-17 field goals with a 4-of-8 effort from three-point range. McClain-Corley was 2-of-2 from the foul line. He also grabbed seven boards.
Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) and sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) each added 15 points and eight rebounds. Preston also tied Shippensburg's Luke Nedrow with a game-high three assists.
Carlos Carter had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Raiders. Rashon Johnson added 17 points and six boards, while Dom Sleva grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Shepherd had a 28-26 lead at halftime.
Shippensburg took the lead for good at 62-61 when Carter hit a three-pointer with 1:17 left in the game. Shepherd got to within a point at 67-66 with 15 seconds left when Preston hit a long-range three-pointer.
Andrew Recchia hit 1-of-2 free throws with seven seconds remaining to make it a two-point game. The Rams turned the ball over on their last possession as Shippensburg held on for the win.
Shepherd connected on 39.7 percent (25-63) of its field goals with a 28 percent (7-25) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 90 percent (9-10) of their free throws.
Shippensburg shot 42.1 percent (24-57) from the floor with a 31.8 percent (7-22) effort from beyond the arc. The Raiders hit on 76.5 percent (13-17) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 39-37 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced four turnovers and committed six.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Kutztown for a 3 p.m. contest.
