SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Brooke Lawyer scored a game-high 19 points to lead Lock Haven (5-6, 3-3 PSAC) to a 63-42 win over Shepherd University (0-11, 0-6 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Freshman guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) and sophomore guard Aubrey Austin (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale/Lenoir-Rhyne) each scored 12 points to pace the Rams. Grant connected on 5-of-13 field goals with a 2-of-6 effort from beyond the arc. Austin hit on 5-of-8 field goals with a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range.
Sophomore forward Neresha Miller (Landover, Md./DuVal/Alderson Broaddus) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for the Rams. Senior forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) had five points, six boards, three blocks, and a pair of steals. Junior guard Madison Mertz (Maugansville, Md./North Hagerstown) added three points, three rebounds, a pair of blocked shots, and four steals.
Jackie Fetsko added 12 points, while Alana Robinson contributed six points, 16 rebounds, and four blocked shots for the Bald Eagles.
Lock Haven had a 39-20 lead at halftime.
Shepherd shot 34 percent (17-50) from the floor with a 26.3 percent (5-19) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 50 percent (3-6) of their free throws.
Lock Haven shot 34.8 percent (24-69) from the floor with a 29.6 percent effort (8-27) from three-point range. The Bald Eagles shot 46.7 percent (7-15) from the foul line.'
Lock Haven had a 51-33 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 21.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Millersville for a 1 p.m. contest.
