SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (3-10-3) scored a pair of second-half goals to rally past Pitt-Johnstown (4-8-1) for a 2-1 victory in men's soccer action at Shepherd on Monday afternoon.
Pitt-Johnstown took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a penalty kick by Toto Alexzander at the 5:21 mark when the game began on Sept. 9. The game was suspended at the half due to lightning and resumed today.
Shepherd tied the game when sophomore midfielder Asong Nkemanjong (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson/Howard) scored on a header off a corner kick from freshman midfielder Donik Elshani (Crofton, Md./Crofton) at the 49:23 mark.
Junior forward/midfielder Mac Long (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro/Hagerstown Community College) scored on a penalty kick at the 76:13 mark to lift the Rams to victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Carter Cave (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (45:00, 1 GA, 0 saves) and senior goalkeeper Christian Blazes (Hagerstown, Md./Heritage Academy) (45:00, 0 GA, 3 saves) combined to post three saves for the Rams. Jacob Tichnell recorded six saves for the Mountain Cats.
Pitt-Johnstown had a 14-13 edge in shots with Shepherd holding an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. UPJ had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Millersville for a 4 p.m. contest.
