ETTRICK, Va. – Senior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) scored a game-high 20 points, but Saint Augustine's (1-1) gained a 62-57 win over Shepherd (1-1) in men's basketball action at the Atlantic Region Crossover at Virginia State on Saturday.
McClain-Corley connected on 7-of-22 shots from the floor with a 5-of-15 effort from three-point range. He was 1-of-1 from the foul line. He also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added 12 points and a team-high four assists. Junior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) contributed six points and seven boards.
MacNasa Hughes scored 17 points to pace the Falcons. Jawan Browner added 13 points and five boards, while Chris Volo had eight points and eight rebounds.
Saint Augustine's had a 30-21 advantage at the half.
Shepherd connected on 31.8 percent (21-66) of its field goals with a 26.2 percent (11-42) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 44.4 percent (4-9) of their free throws.
Saint Augustine's shot 45.8 percent (22-48) from the floor with a 56.3 percent (9-16) effort from beyond the arc. The Falcons hit 40.9 percent (9-22) of their free throws.
Saint Augustine's had a 38-31 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Frostburg State for a 6 p.m. contest.
