BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Emma Witt scored a game-high 21 points to lead West Virginia Wesleyan (2-0) to a 93-55 win over Shepherd University (0-2) in women's basketball action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday night.
Junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Rams. Bolles hit 5-of-13 field goals with a 1-of-3 effort from three-point range.
Junior guard Deaira Hairston (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) added nine points and four boards, while sophomore guard Jordan Carr (Charles Town, W.Va./Jefferson) contributed seven points and three rebounds.
Courtney Wilfong added 12 points and Charlotte Sherrill had 11 for the Bobcats. Maile Hunt grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Bobcats had a 57-18 lead at halftime.
Shepherd shot 28.6 percent (18-68) from the floor with a 16.7 percent (4-24) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 55.6 percent (15-27) of their free throws.
West Virginia Wesleyan shot 42.3 percent (33-78) from the floor with a 27.3 percent (6-22) effort from three-point range. The Bobcats shot 72.4 percent (21-29) from the foul line.
West Virginia Wesleyan had a 49-28 edge on the boards. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed 15.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Bowie State for a 1 p.m. contest.
