SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Anii Harris scored 16 points to lead Bowie State (3-2) to a 65-61 win over Shepherd University (0-3) in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Rams. She hit on 6-of-17 field goals with a 6-of-13 effort from three-point range. She was 2-for-2 from the foul line.
Junior guard Leila Copeland (Reston, Va./South Lakes/Barton) added 15 points, while freshman guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) tossed in nine. Junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) grabbed a team-high seven boards and sophomore guard Jordan Carr (Charles Town, W.Va./Jefferson) dished out a game-high five assists.
Mia Smith added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Jayla Turner scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Shepherd had a 37-34 lead at halftime.
Shepherd shot 32.7 percent (18-55) from the floor with a 42.9 percent (9-21) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 76.2 percent (16-21) of their free throws.
Bowie State shot 36.7 percent (22-60) from the floor with a 10 percent (1-10) effort from three-point range. The Bulldogs shot 60.6 percent (20-33) from the foul line.
Bowie State had a 52-31 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 21 turnovers and committed 20.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Wilmington (Del.) for a 1 p.m. contest.
