Shepherd Women Knock Off Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del.  – Junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) scored 16 points and freshman guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) added 12 points and three assists to lead Shepherd University (1-3) to a 57-53 win over Wilmington (Del.) (0-6) in women's basketball action at Wilmington on Sunday afternoon. 

Bolles connected on 6-of-16 field goals with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-6 from the foul line. Wehner was 5-of-6 from the floor with a 2-of-2 effort from beyond the arc. 

Junior guard Leila Copeland (Reston, Va./South Lakes/Barton) added nine points, nine rebounds, and two steals, while freshman forward Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) tossed in nine points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.              

Cha'Nyah Dunston-Mason scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats. Aniyah Bond added nine points and 11 rebounds. 

Wilmington had a 29-28 lead at halftime. 

Shepherd took the lead for good at 55-53 when Bowman scored on a pass from Wehner with 1:03 left in regulation. Wehner drained a jumper with eight seconds left to seal the win. 

Shepherd shot 37.9 percent (22-58) from the floor with a 35 percent (7-20) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 50 percent (6-12) of their free throws. 

Wilmington shot 27.3 percent (18-66) from the floor with a 28.6 percent (8-28) effort from three-point range. The Wildcats shot 75 percent (9-12) from the foul line. 

Shepherd had a 46-42 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 15. 

The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Seton Hill for a 3 p.m. contest.
