SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) scored a game-high 18 points to lead Shepherd (3-2) to a 60-54 win over Bowie State (2-3) in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Sunday.
Jordan connected on 3-of-10 field goals with a 2-of-5 effort from three-point range. He drained 10-of-12 free throws. Jordan added a game-high five assists.
Senior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) added 11 points and six boards, while junior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had 11 points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard Michael Cooper (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) was also in double figures with 10 points and sophomore forward Stefan Marcelle (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Prep) had game-high efforts of 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Amare Wimbush had 11 points and five boards to pace the Bulldogs. Caleb Johnson and Joel Webb were also in double figures with 10 points each.
Shepherd had a 33-24 lead at the break.
Bowie State rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to tie the game at 47-all after Deven Richmond hit a three-pointer with 2:42 left. Shepherd closed the game on a 13-7 run to cap the victory.
Shepherd connected on 37.3 percent (19-51) of its field goals with a 37.5 percent (9-24) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 81.3 percent (13-18) of their free throws.
Bowie State shot 40.4 percent (23-57) from the floor with a 23.1 percent (3-13) effort from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs hit on 55.6 percent (5-9) of their free throws
Shepherd had a 42-30 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed 15.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Seton Hill for a 5 p.m. game.
