Seton Hill Downs Shepherd Women

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Christine Frye had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead Seton Hill (3-3, 1-0 PSAC) to an 83-66 win over Shepherd University (1-4, 0-1 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Friday. 

Sophomore guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) led the Rams with 18 points. She connected on 6-of-9 field goals with a 3-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-3 from the foul line.  

Junior guard Leila Copeland (Reston, Va./South Lakes/Barton) added 13 points, a game-high eight steals, three assists, and three rebounds. Freshman guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) added 11 points, four boards, and three assists. Junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) and freshman forward Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) each grabbed a team-high five rebounds.                                                                                                            

Helene Cowan added 15 points for the Griffins. Sakeria Haralson added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Seton Hill outscored Shepherd, 23-13, in the second quarter, to take a 38-31 advantage at halftime. 

Shepherd shot 39.7 percent (23-58) from the floor with a 36.4 percent (4-11) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 64 percent (16-25) of their free throws. 

Seton Hill shot 44.1 percent (30-68) from the floor with an 18.2 percent (4-22) effort from three-point range. The Griffins shot 79.2 percent (19-24) from the foul line. 

Seton Hill had a 56-24 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 27 turnovers and committed 23. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host California (Pa.) for a 1 p.m. contest.
