Shepherd Men Fall in OT at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Maceo Austin scored 23 points and Jomo Goings added 20 to lead Slippery Rock (2-6, 1-2 PSAC) to a 63-57 overtime win over Shepherd (3-5, 0-3 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Slippery Rock on Monday. 

Senior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) scored 14 points and junior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added 13 to pace the Rams. Poffenberger and freshman guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) each grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Banks was also in double figures with 11 points. 

Junior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) contributed eight points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) handed out a game-high six assists. 

Lashon Lindsey grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for Slippery Rock. 

Shepherd had a 28-25 lead at halftime. 

The game featured five ties and four lead changes. Shepherd took a 50-48 lead on a jumper by McClain-Corley with 2:11 left in regulation. Austin hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left to force overtime. The Rock outscored Shepherd 13-7 in the extra session to gain the win. 

Shepherd connected on 33.3 percent (21-63) of its field goals with a 38.9 percent (7-18) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 61.5 percent (8-13) of their free throws. 

Slippery Rock shot 39.3 percent (24-61) from the floor with a 23.1 percent (6-26) effort from beyond the arc. The Rock hit 75 percent (9-12) from the foul line.

The Rock had a 47-38 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed seven. 

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Edinboro for a 3 p.m. game.
