West Chester Edges Shepherd Men

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Elijah Allen hit a jumper as time expired to lift West Chester (18-7, 13-6 PSAC) to a 64-63 win over Shepherd (13-12, 10-9 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night. 

Junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) had 21 points, seven boards, and four assists to lead the Rams. He was 8-of-19 from the floor with a 5-of-12 effort from three-point range. 

Sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) added 14 points, while freshman forward Stefan Marcelle (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Prep) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. 

Kyle McGee scored 20 points to lead the Golden Rams. Robert Smith added 12 points and Anthony Purnell Jr. tossed in 11. 

The game was tied at 29-29 at halftime.

Shepherd took its first lead of the second half at 35-33 on a three-pointer by Hughley with 17:05 left. The game was either tied or the Rams held the lead throughout the remainder of the half until Allen's last-second game-winner. \

Shepherd connected on 37.5 percent (21-56) of its field goals with a 24.3 percent (9-37) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 57.1 percent (12-21) of their free throws. 

West Chester shot 44 percent (22-50) from the floor with a 31.8 percent (7-22) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Rams hit on 68.4 percent (13-19) of their free throws. 

West Chester had a 39-34 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 11. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 3 p.m. contest.
