WILSON, N.C. – Junior midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) scored four goals, while junior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and sophomore Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) each added three to lead Shepherd University (1-0) to a 16-11 win over Barton (1-2) in women's lacrosse action at Barton on Saturday.
Dextradeur added three assists for a team-high six points Sophomore attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep) and junior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright)each added a pair of goals. Stoner also contributed six ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Sophomore attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) had a goal and a pair of assists, while freshman attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) netted a goal. Senior midfielder Valerie Haney (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and freshman attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) each recorded an assist.
Samantha Serio scored three goals to lead the Bulldogs. Kate Matuza added two goals and an assist, while Sydney Quinn had a pair of goals and a game-high 11 draw controls.
Shepherd had a 10-5 lead at halftime behind four first-half goals from Edwards.
Senior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded five saves for the Rams. Savannah Graves (2) and Avery Gandolf (4) teamed for six saves for the Bulldogs.
Shepherd had a 28-18 edge in shots with a 22-16 advantage in shots on goal. Shepherd was 25-of-27 in clears while Barton was 16-of-24. The Bulldogs had a 17-14 edge in draw controls and a 41-36 advantage in ground balls.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host West Chester at 2 p.m. at Ram Stadium.
