SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Ariel Jones scored a game-high 41 points to lead Shippensburg (22-5, 17-4 PSAC) to a 76-54 win over Shepherd University (1-25, 1-20 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night
Freshman guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) scored 17 points to pace the Rams. She was 5-of-12 from the floor with a 4-of-10 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-4 from the foul line. Grant added a team-high four steals.
Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) added 13 points, six boards, three assists, a pair of blocks, and a steal. Senior forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) added eight points, while junior guard Kendal Haggerty (Frederick, Md./Urbana/CCBC) added seven points, five boards, three assists, and a pair of steals.
Sophomore forward Neresha Miller (Landover, Md./DuVal/Alderson Broaddus) tied Shippensburg's Jones with a game-high nine rebounds.
Jones hit on 13-of-26 field goals with a 2-of-10 effort from three-point range. She was 13-of-14 from the charity stripe. Lauren Pettis added nine points and seven rebounds for the Raiders.
Shippensburg had a 40-30 lead at the break.
Shepherd shot 33.3 percent (18-54) from the floor with a 28.6 percent (8-28) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 62.5 percent (10-16) of their free throws.
Shippensburg shot 42.4 percent (25-59) from the floor with a 12.5 percent (2-16) effort from three-point range. The Raiders shot 92.3 percent (24-26) from the foul line.
Shippensburg had a 41-32 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 19.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kutztown for a 1 p.m. contest.
